Hi all, My name is Rich, and we are soon going to be the proud owner of a beautiful Wiemeraner puppy from Rachel at Silvestre Gundogs in Norfolk, UK. We are down on their puppy list and they are shortly to have delivery of a litter. Both myself, my wife Jayne and our two daughters (Lauren (13) and Jessica (9)) are so excited and can hardly wait. To make it even harder waiting, we keep seeing Weimeraners in passing. They are such a noble, proud looking dog with that hint of mischief (you know that cocked head, raised eyebrow expression they are good at). God, what are we letting ourselves in for? (only kidding) Just like when I got into my tropical fish. Seemed like a great idea at the time, until I realised that I now have to spend a good 4hours per week on aquarium maintainance plus the trips to the stores to buy the expensive lists of chemicals to keep the little suckers alive. So, please be patient with us, as we are bound to be bouncing plenty of questions off this forum, some of which may seem daft to some of you. Take care, Rich.

Hi Tasha,
I've got no plans to work the dog as such, although I'm a mountain biker and once old enough he (thinking of the name 'Casper') will be joining me on the trails. I ride cross country and downhill / Freeride, so the pooch will get to chase me through woodlands, fields, streams etc and I'm sure he'll have a great time.
Other than that, he'll just be a new member of my wonderful family, and we all can't wait.
I'm more than sure that our life will change, but for the better.
Thanks for the welcome.
Regards, Rich.

Am sure he'll love that we often cycle with our dogs there is a really good product called a 'springer' that you can get that attaches to your bike and to the dog but stops them from pulling you off if there attention wonders.
You'll need to be careful of the amount of exercise that he gets till he is 18 months to protect his hips but after that they can go for miles and its a great way to keep them fit and healthy.
There are lots of gundog classes around its worth going just for the socialising and the obedience training, plus its alot of fun and outside so not cooped up in a hall like so many of the classes. They use dummies mainly rather than actual game so nothing like that to put you off and if you have a competitive nature there are working tests and field trials that you can compete in later on. Any excuse for a day out and a picnic with like minded people.

Hi Rich Guess you know me then ha ha ha.... I think the questions come in more afterwards, and I know you will get good advice here. I will send you an invite also to our own private group where every silvestre owner will be excited to chat to you. I updated my website the other day and if you click on the silvestre outing link you will see photos of our day outing in the summer where we all get together. Take care Rich

I've heard the 18months before long walks advice before, so I'll certainly stick to that one.

I have 2 springers in the shed. Haven't used them since I was pulled off my bike as my dog lunged at 2 collies (he hated collies - a left over from his agility days). He lunged, the springer spun, he went in front of the bike, was hit by the wheel, and I ended up going over the handlebars and him. Not pleasant. Just be careful with them, some people love them, but I was very shocked after that happened.
In the meantime - happy new puppy to be!
Nina

safer to use it with a halti or a harness if he's strong enough to do that Nina. What rotten luck. I had three adult weims on mine with no problems although keeping the balance was at times a pain, did you put some innertube between the frame and the plastic inserts??? Without it I found that the whole thing slips and doesn't hold any grip so can spin around.
If you want to rehome them I can give them a good home now I have a couple of extras.
