WENDY---are you seriously suggesting that I jeopardize and undermine the integrity of the breed by importing and breeding Weimaraners that don't conform to the breed standard!?!?!?!? ;D

Mr. Wetdog, you don't know what you are missing over there. And as far as I know only the USA and Canada have a standard that isn't conform the homeland of the Weimaraner. And watch out there or I will send you Cold Water

You missed the UK off your list......
but I wouldn't say it doesn't conform, more a case of being worded differently.

I was thinking more of educating, and demonstrating the approach of the Country of Origin, which I know the US have cited before, with blues maybe? Don't remember. Isn't Canada falling into line with the rest of the world come January 1? That's what I understand. Anyway she/he could go to a certain person in Europe first, which is perfectly kosher!!!!! Wendy

Yes Daniela, as far as having an own breed standard you are right, the UK is also different. But the UK admits the longhair as the US denies them their identity. And I say again. They don't know what they are missing over there. And..... I like to meet the "kosher" person in Europe. Maybe he/she can learn me more about the breed we have since 1976.

Actually, I meant Irena, as longhairs are perfectly acceptable in Europe. Sorry, I was joking and not being clear. :-)

Just an idea, but maybe Longhairs can be shown under a different organization in the US, not the AKC? I wonder if other clubs there accept them? I would never imagine going to a non-FCI show here (I would be excluded from our club for sure), but in the US it probably wouldn't matter?
Just thinking aloud, LOL.
And, Wendy, Mr Wetdog was joking too, he actually likes the looks of Longhairs, from what he's been telling me! He just isn't too crazy about grooming anyone excessively.

Is Canada allowing longhairs then in the near future? I think that would be great. And yes Wim, I'd like to see that happen here too. I'll be lobbying for it. Enka is pretty much back to normal now. Nothing slows her down for long.

My understanding is that longs are recognised from January1, a month to wait. There is a breeder up there who has been using longs in their breeding program, and they have some nice ones, ready to go in the ring, no doubt. At least nice American longs will have somewhere to go where they can be appreciated. Two longhair sisters from Nani came to Australia, and one was the mother of many BIS winners. She had a huge impact on longs and smooths. Most dogs in Australia go back to Standing Ovation, who was a longhair carrier as well. I just never understood how they could basically say, well they are OK where the breed comes from, but we'll just ignore that. I have also read that the LH gene is linked to healthy thyroid function, and better coats. Carriers are supposed to have twice the number of hair folicles per cm than non-carriers.
