No, no more bruises for me thank goodness, but then again, I've been practising quite a lot over the last couple of months. Am off now for the last hunting day of this season. We're hoping to get some pheasants and maybe even the fox today.... Fingers crossed.

Well, things didn't work out the way we'd planned. Although we had a fantastic day and shot 10 pheasants and some other animals, Billy ended up with a neck hernia. Somewhere at the end of the morning he suddenly came back limping with both front legs. After a minute or so he recovered. Half an hour later he was suddenly limping with one hind leg. Again he recovered after a minute or so. Half an hour later he was working in the thick cover when he suddenly fell down, he just couldn't use his 4 legs anymore and he whined (something he never ever does, he's a tough cookie). After a quick examination I diagnosed him with a neck hernia and brought him to the practice for some shots. He is fully recovered now as it seems, but I'm afraid he needs 6 weeks of rest and this will remain a weak spot for him. Anyway, Daan did a GREAT job yesterday. She was hunting very well, made a couple of very strong points and some neat retrieves. A day with mixed feelings.....

WOW, great pics, I enjoyed them a lot!!! The partridge is my favourite... I will start also shooting training again to do the practical hunting test this year, fingers crossed, I know how you feel, but its such fun, isn't it.
Hope your Billy will be ok soon, must be scary to see it happen. But he is lucky to have you who knows about vet stuff.
Good luck with Daan for the last hunting day of the season next week!

This, unfortenately, became the weekend of mixed emotions, hope Billy recovers completely, he's such a multi talented boy. Lucky for him that you'd could recognise and diagnose him so quickly yourself. Great work from Daan and congrats with yet another invitation for her!
