Hi everyone, I am interested in the methods people use to name their litters. Here in Oz most people use the alphabetical method, all pups in the first litter have names that start with A, the second litter start with B, that sort of thing. I like themes, and songs at that. So what do you use? Wendy

I have used themes for naming my puppies. First litter was winds ie kidmal tornado. Second was crete (I have always wanted to go there) so Kidmal Kriti (greek for Crete) Khania (which is a place on Crete.
Latest was named after northern soul songs so we have Kidmal Lady Love etc.
Next I am planning gemstones (I love my gems) so will be kidmal Tanzanite, Kidmal Morganite etc..

The litter letter is fairly common--Riga however came from the "X" litter--now that was a challenge, we ended up with Xanda Vom Mittlewest.(pronounced zanda)

I love thinking up puppy names! I am always one for writing down names that appeal. Usually all the dogs in the litter have a theme which is linked to them in some way. It could be a connection through the sire and/or dam, or something that happened the day the parents were mated, or born. Having said that, it can be something totally random as long as there is a theme. I like playing on words and find it a time to get creative

I'm like that too, with puppy names, Daniela! I actually have an index book with enough names from songs to last all the list members for years! Phantom's first babies both have devil in their names as he is Grausturm Ima Tassie Devil, so I thought the first had to. We have Bailey, Syrinx Devil In Disguise, an Elvis song, and it is so true, she looks like an angel, walks like an angel, but she's the devil in disguise!!! Riley is Syrinx Devil In The D Tail, couldn't find another devil song for him, searched the net and nothing. Of course after he was registered I found some. I'm not going to use the alphabet method as I will not breed enough litters to warant it. There are people in Australia who breed enough for everybody! So if anyone is stuck for names, ask me, I might have the perfect one in my little black book. Aussie gemstone - Tourmaline pronounced Tor ma lean - something a bit different. Opal is a bit cheesey. LOL, glad I am not alone then.
I too have a BIG black A4 binder full of names. I don't know why I do it because I am never ever going to use all of them. Still, it has come in handy for friends.
Once I get a theme, we have great fun in the office. I usually throw the idea out to the department so I end up with some real quirky ones.
A friend of mine has French Bulldogs, we had great fun one afternoon playing around with words. The best ones were Ethel Tower and Betty Pois.

I think one of the most cleverest names I have seen was a bitch called:
Misss Print.
Simple but clever I thought.

The funniest I have ever read is the name of a (Brittany??) field trial dog in the States I read about on another list, Die You Gravy Sucking Pig. I kid you not!!!!!!!!! Here we have Watchmybutnothers (sound it out) and a Dackie Dot Com

Well we had only 1 litter till now. And we chosed for Themes for the puppies. For that litter we chosed Vikingnames (Old nordic names). The owners could tell us how they wanted to call their puppy and there we searched a viking name for. The Viking name had to begin with the same later as the calling name. So we had:" Balder Baxter Gunnar Grimmar Nossa Nala Disa Dana Lina Lotte Bera Britta We wanted the calling names as well in the pedigree name. I think it is a lot easier then. The most called name is the calling name. And otherwise you maybe don's know which dog they mean. For example our Vidar his pedigree name is Classic Dream's Talk of the Town. Well some get confused because they don't understand that Vidar is the same dog as Classic Dream's Talk of the Town

I know what you mean, Sylvia. Phantom is Grausturm Ima Tassie Devil, and many people call him Tassie. That annoys me, as they do know his name! Wendy

Hi Sorry its been a while since I last posted anything.
Well I use different things. I have film themes which we have loved such as Harry Potter,Lord of the Rings, and Star Wars. I had one litter named after Karate moves as my lot all practice Karate so we now have a puppy dog we are keeping called Silvestre Shotokan. I find it fun to use a theme because when someone rings me up saying "I have a puppy....called....", I immediately know which bitch produced it.
