Over the last four weeks a number of weimaraners (3) that I know have bloated. All fortunately have survived following surgery. However I noticed that we had a similar number of dogs that bloated at the same time last year as well. Interesting facts - all these dogs have bloated in the autumn time here in Australia. (This corresponds to the fall time in the US) None of the dogs are from similar blood lines. Some are backyard breeder dogs and others are pedigreed dogs All have bloated following a change in weather condition from warm to a lot cooler. Has anyone else found that dogs in their country tended to bloat in a particular season? Another words is there a correlation between seasonal change and bloat or is this just a coincidence? I'd be interested in hearing others thoughts on this topic. I personally will be starting a record of bloat cases noting season occurrence.

Wow that's really interesting if there is some kind of correlation there. Perhaps you could contact a pet emergency service to see if they keep those kinds of records?

Good idea. I hadn't thought about that. I work as a vet nurse and there is an emergency centre close to where I live and I know the people down there. I go ask them. Thanks for the suggestion.

definitely interesting, I never considered a temperature change as a possible trigger for bloat. With weather changes you have air pressure changes as well so I suppose water consumption and body regulation would be more difficult.
