Atlas made me very proud on Wednesday. We were contacted a while a go by an artist that wanted to use Atlas. She does "video-art" and has exhibited all around the world. Anyway we said yes and on Wednesday we were off to the film shoot (I was feeling really b/c I was recovering from the flu.) When we got there I got a bit of a shock. I had thought it would be only us and the artist + the camera man, but there were at least 15 different people running around doing light, cameras ++ and I was wondering how Atlas would be able to concentrate in this very new environment.
We had been told that Atlas mostly just had to "sit still", but that wasn't exactly right. The first bit was easy : Atlas had to go into a room and lick the face of a girl that was laying on the floor "playing" dead. Atlas does that anyway when people lie on the floor ;D The next part had me . Atlas was to sit in a corner then walk a cross the room and jump up and "kiss" a woman that was standing there before he had to walk calmly over to me (I was standing by the camera). I wasn't aloud to say a word and could only direct him with my hands. This we had NEVER done before, but amazingly he got it right after only a couple of tries. Next thing he had to do was stand 1 meter to the side of the woman and stand completely still (not moving one paw) for 6(!!!) minutes. He did that on his first try. He knows the "stay" command, but has never done it for that long a time and with lots of people standing around with cameras and lights. The last thing he had to do was sit on a table completely still for 6 minutes. After a few minutes a "light shield" that was 2x 3 meters fell on him , but it wasn't heavy and he didn't make a fuss over it. The next time around he got it right and we were finished for the day. Atlas was tired (ha had been working for 5 and a half hours straight). People came up to us and commented on how "professional" Atlas was because he "changed" the second it was his turn "on set". You should have seen their faces when I said he had nver done it before Between takes he was running around being his silly old self, but the second he got a command it looked like he "switched" into another mode and was totally concentrated. He has never done anything like that before. Never even been to a film shoot, so I was really very very proud of him
I'm going to ask the artist if I can post some pictures here when I speak to her after Christmas.
