Dear friends, I just adopted a lovely 4.5 month old pup. He is on his best behavior and is learning fast with clicker-training (positive reinforcement) technique. But we do have have one big problem, he is obsessed with picking up little stones, earth and other crap off the ground! He generally just carries it in his mouth and then drops, but sometimes I see him chewing on stones and I am scared he will swallow or choke on one. Any of you had this problem? I don't want to go to the muzle solution yet, is there any correction I can do without strong force?

Hello, most pups stop this about 5 to 6 months of age. Just keep him away from large stones and watch him. Try not to make a big deal about it, as this will encourage him to pick them up before you do, if he has one just offer him some thing to eat and remove the stone quietly when he drops it, don't let him see that you have it. Offer him safe things to chew on like hard toys, large bone or a frozen carrot.

Thanks so much for a timely and great answer. You put my mind and heart at rest. Yes, it seems to work when I pay less attention to his habit and distract him with toys and food! Really appreciate it, take care Rotwild
