I know that I haven't been posting on this forum for a while, but I felt that I should tell you that Cassie, our beloved old LH girl, was put to sleep on Monday night.
She probably had a rapidly advancing tumour above her trachea (we did not put her through the anguish of tests). She definitely had a paralysis of her oesophagus, which meant that she couldn't swallow. Linked to this she had a rapidly worsening paralysis of her hind legs. On her last night, she had to be lifted into a stand position, and then her hind-legs un-crossed, so that she could stagger forward.
She first became distressed on Friday night, and despite the best efforts of our vet, and lots of TLC, failed to improve over the weekend. She left us peacefully, with her dignity intact. During all her last hours and days, she didn't once have an "accident" indoors, and she spent her last few hours (unknown to us) out on the terrace with us, as we ate supper together.
Izzy (Glas Islwyn) deeply misses her old friend. She is so quiet now, and like a shadow as she follows us around the house.

Still thinking of you Sian. Must be devastating to lose a dog as quickly as you lost Cassie. She was a lovely girl!!!!

so sorry... I saw her last year at our club match, remember that the judge was impressed about her condition at such a age. Sure she had a wonderful life with you.

Thank you all for your kind words. We are back from our long-planned holiday, which was a healing time for all of us. Izzy still misses her friend, but is a little brighter now.... I've just found a picture of Cassie from the Clubmatch 2007, which I think captures her character very well.

It is always hard to lose a friend. I'm sorry. Remember her as she was when she was young, strong and full of life and energy---that is what she is now, and will be when you meet again.
