Can anybody tell me why the dogs in the field trails in France are often in hands of professional dog trainers and if this is common in other countries. I am just curious.

Well, In France most of the trials are on a short time and in the whole week. As most of us has a job, It's worth to give our dog to a pro trainer for a while to get the best. The dog goes out to train for a month (or more) and is endly entered to the trials with a better training. The french club organize the special of breed trials on the week ends....but you just need one CACT (first prize) to to get the FT CH title. In this way, it's compulsory to run the open breed's FT to get the 3 other CACT.
I think too that it is cheaper to use a pro trainer that training and handling yourself ( road, hotel, fuel, and so on....)
