On of our weims is somtimes a little picky with his food, he gets bored easily but eats with good appetit when its something he likes. Earlier this year we tried a new food called " Magnusson Meat & Biscuit", it is a oven-baked food so its porous, He absolutly loves this food! But now to the problem: For two or three months ago I noticed that the fur on his topline has become really dark , and he also has spots of dark in the fur down towards his ribs and tighs...( he is a shorthaired weim). Our bitch have some small spots as well now...she has not been on this food as long has the male... I thought that maybe he was changing his coat ( it's almost winter up where we live) but nothing seems to come of when I brush him! I read on the ingredience list that the food included a great deal of wheat-flour, and they have never been served a food with that ingredience before...could it be the reason? I have bought another food now without wheat-flour...but they only had it for two weeks...so I don't know yet if it's gonna work.. I'm grateful for opinions and advice about this subject... Cheers! / Anna

My problem is pretty much familiar to yours. As I have been searching through the first Weimaraner Ways edition about the same issue, I found their point of view: changing a coat - with a nice photo of these spots attached.
From my point of view this could be at least partly true. My 11 months old male SH Weimaraner is in his shedding time. He is definitely changing his coat with a typical darker stripe on the back which is growing by the time. Beside that a few dark spots on the ribs and neck appeared. I can easily refer that to shedding. But at the same time I can truly say, that these spots emerged in a very short time and obviously in a limited numbers. It's been quite a while now since they appeared and they are not growing neither they are not multiplied anymore. It must be considered that a month ago (just before the spots emerged) just for a week or so, I mixed his regular dry food (Orijen Large Breed Puppy) with another dry food, which included wheat flour, exactly as you mentioned. After that I found out that he gets gases and his poop became softer even more liquid as it should be normally.
I may assume that these dark spots are a result of shedding but in the other hand it's not usual to appear in such an obvious pattern. So that spots might be a consequence of both - changing coat and food inadequacy, visually resulted on the coat.
It's not that I am sure about that, but I am concluding that from the facts that I know by the present time. Any other thoughts on that?
Regards, Miha
