Hi all,
received this info on weim HOD study
***PLEASE CROSS-POST***
Support from the WFF (Weimaraner Foundation Fund) will now allow your healthy puppies to participate and contribute to the ongoing HOD (hypertrophic Osteodystrophy) study.
The search for the genetic cause of HOD in Weimaraners is progressing at the Bannasch Laboratory, at the University of Davis, CA, and the preliminary results look very promising. We now need healthy Weimaraner puppies to direct us to where the genetic differences lie.
The next step in the search for a DNA marker for HOD will be advanced when an adequate number of normal control radiographs are obtained.
Radiographs and blood samples from normal, healthy, 5-8 month old puppies that come from healthy litters are being collected. The WFF is offering reimbursement of up to $150 to help defray the veterinary costs in obtaining these samples.
PLEASE join us in this effort. The benefit for the Weimaraner breed in general and for individual breeding programs is immeasurable.
Please contact me for specific information and instructions about the samples required. Email: nsafra@... Phone: 530-752-1317
Veterinary receipts may be sent to Michael Anderson, WFF treasurer at 6500 Mc Cleary Road, Stewartstown, PA 17363, or emailed to graytsky@... for reimbursement.
Thank you!
Noa Safra DVM PhD nsafra@... 530-752-1317

I have read on a blogspot here in the USA claiming that Longhair Weimaraners are resistant to HOD and that breeding them to smooth-coated Weims make their offspring resistant to HOD. I'm pretty sure this is false but does anyone have input on this?
