In 2008 and I had my lovely litter of puppies my intention originally was to keep a bitch back to have a replacement for Bonnie ready. Things didn't go according to plan the right owner for one of the dogs never came up so I kept back two puppies thinking I can't have children two will be fine as I work for myself and have the time to give to both in training ;D
However mother nature had her own idea and my lovely daughter came along hand in hand with a rubbish pregnancy that had me in hospital for most of the 9 months. As a consequence my puppies went off to kennels so the training I started has pretty much gone to pot although they are extremely well socialised with all manner of dogs all different shapes and sizes.
Alex is allergic to the dogs so we've had to reduce numbers short term so I currently have my cocker with my parents, my bitch puppy with a friend whose doing a great job with her leaving me with two, my older bitch whose no issue and my dog puppy whose now nearly two years and had very little training.
So my first question is with limited time until Alex starts walking and stops feeding how would you go about training a now adolescent intact male weimaraner???
He's keen on game, too keen on the cat but has a good recall. We've been back to training and he is over excited but wants to learn. We have started with basic obedience of sit stay etc but given the choice or prehaps a rescue what would your training plan look like?
My second is when my bitch puppy comes back she will have been given thanks to her wonderful fosterer some basic training and an introduction to the field (yesterday she was on a shot over day and today a shoot where for all accounts she has done ok) so will have a head start but little bond with me. I do have the option to rehome her but she is what I bred the litter for.
Both dogs have picked up some bad habits like scrumping for food when out
I would appreciate any tips or advice. I think this might also be useful for people taking on a rescue who are unsure about starting field training with an older dog who may have picked up some undesirable habits.
