I was wondering if we could make an overview of our weimaraners HD result, including the country where it was made. Maybe a small explenation how it works in each country would be a wonderful addition...
It would be sort of small database that members could consult.

In Poland - no obligation to x-ray neither sire nor dam. Responsible breeders and stud dogs' owners do hip tests and publish the results. But I have never heard about any weimaraner tested in PL that would have the result worse then HD A. ;D

In Holland all results are officially published in media like club magazines and/or dog magzines where teh dutch kennel club presents more results. E.g. the pedigree cd you can order at the weimaraner club helds the offical HD results, and because thesea are imported you can also find these results in weimaranerpedigrees.com Also for other countries the results are in this db, so db already excists, maybe we can help to make it even more complete, but I think it's very complete already. I don't know any breeder of weimaraners in Holland who haven'done HD test, except for maybe puppy mill kind. in the UK hip scores are accessed and the results sent on to the KC who publish it in the quarterly BRS. There is a breed average which stands at 12 it is taken over nearly 2000 dogs that have been scored we have a range of 0-89 as at 1/11/2009. Really its a dip in the ocean compared to the number of labs who have been scored which stands at nearly 68,000. Anything under the breed average is usually deemed HD free and suitable for breeding. There is no obligation to hip score but the new KC Accredited Breeder Scheme members have to as part of their membership to the scheme and it is a recommendation by the KC for our breed, its the only health recommendation. Breeders do breed with higher scores and discount the benefits of hip scoring. Alot hip score at 12 months which is the earliest that they can be done in the UK and assessed to get a better HD score. To hip score a dog in the UK from Jan 2010 you have to have your dog microchipped or tattoo'd before they will take the plates.
