Hi, I think all of You have ever heard weird stories about weimaraners, it would be interesting to hear it. I can tell some, that I have heard. Some time ago I've been told, that one guy, that owns two weims, is calling weimaraners "Hitler dogs" because they came from Germany, and that they have "Hitler eagle" on the chest... Well maybe I haven't got so much imagination, but I don't see any "Hitler eagle" on the weimaraner chest... And one more, some people thinks that weims are afraid of people, and that's why they can't live in the city, only in forest...

Wow! What creepy things people say... Before I got better acquainted with the breed, I heard a couple of people talk about the Weims as a sort of wonder-dog: intelligent, quick, with excellent instincts, affectionate, spirited and a bit whimsical (prima donna style). I was quite in awe of them... And still am, to be honest

Some people get freaked out at their amber eyes. They do give you the feeling they can look right inside your head sometimes.

One of the persistent myths, at least here in the U.S., is that of the so-called wirehaired Weimaraner (as opposed to longhaired or stockhaarig). Part of the myth seems to be from a reference in Denlinger's book, The Complete Weimaraner, that purports to present an earlier German standard. I have been unable to locate a copy of the original document to see how it was translated - perhaps a mistranslation of Stockhaar Another distraction is the Slovakian pointer, that can look like a wirehaired Weimaraner.

I'd like to see a pic of your stockhaar - does the coat look different or just feel different? Some folks have told me that those amber eyes of my weims make them look "evil"...It kind of puts them on edge to see a dog that big actually catch them in a steady gaze...I think it's great and get much enjoyment out of it!

How wonderful to own a stockhaar!!! I think they would be great in Alaska, my short haired female doesn't take our cold very well, I have to dress her for the weather:( And if the wind chill factor is too dangerous, she stays home and I take the shepard/husky/wolf "Stover" with me, he's as faithful and much like the weims, temperment wise.
