, Hi all, my Rana, nearly 8) has always been fit and healthy, but the past few days, she has twice been sick, and this is befor she has eaten so her tummy has been empty. The sick is more or less liquid, but it is brown, and just now, there was lots of tiny blood bits in it too, shes a bit tired and looks a bit "stressed" but apart from that I think shes OK, Shes due at the vets on Thursday for her yearly booster and check and Ill mention this sickness straight away, but has anyone any ideas? Both my Weims are fed on either, chicken and mix, or beast hearts with pigs liver and mix. Is there any connection? ? Thanks

Check her gums and the inside of her eye lids. They should be dark pink to red. If they are light pink to whitish looking, she may be anemic. Brown emesis could mean bleeding from the GI lining----it would be dark brown and flecked to black and tarry----it it is an ongoing problem, you might see this in the stools also.
When you press on the gums, color should return quickly---if it is slow to return, it would indicate poor capillary circulation. Check her eyes, nose and mouth for moistness and her skin for excessive looseness and loss of turgur---this would indicate dehydration and poor circulation.
If she has these symptoms, and appears lethargic and unable or unwilling to make much effort to move around---I wouldn't wait, I'd get her to the vet right away. It could be serious.

Hi wetdog, and thank you for the prompt reply re Rana. I have done all the checks you mentioned, and her gums are dark pink to purple, and when pressed, the colour is straight back. Her eyes are fine too, her nose is cool and mostly moist, (although my other weim, Shadow, his nose is always dry) Rana is sleepy, but when shes out, shes playful. I will still mention this sickness tomorrow at the vets and I will insist on a full health check as she gets her booster. Up to press, shes not been sick today Thanks again, Ill let you know the vets verdict xx

Hi there tasha, We took Rana as planned to the vets, and she got on fine actually, I had some very sound advice here from my first post, and I checked all these out before we went. Ie, check the eyes and gums for good circulation and colour, and pinch the skin to make sure shes not dehydrated etc. The vet confirmed all this to me, and we came to the conclusion that Rana may have eaten a biscuit or something that had irritated or cut her throat . If any time it happens again though, I will take her straight back to th vets. We were so relieved she didnt need furthur tests, as this was upstting enough for us all, lol. What spor of problems has your dog been having..... I do hope you get them sorted. xx
