Hi people how are we all? Right, a question for you all. My Shadow, a few weeks ago, started licking and licking his paw, around where youd imagine his ankle to be, at the front. I checked and checked, and found a tiny lump, about the size of a tiny pea under the hair. Eventualy, he was licking that much, I decided to take a closer look, to find that the "tiny lump" had come to the surface and had actually become a tiny "sore" I thought well, another trip to the vets, and lo and behold, I checked Ranas paws, and she has EXACTLY THE SAME thing coming........ same place, same thing, EXACTLY, only Rana is not licking hers yet, what could this be, has anyone any suggestions, Shadow is obviously uncomfortable with this, and Rana has always had "sensitive paws" so weve never been able to check them closely.

By all means take Shadow to the vet for a look and see what he says.
Are Shadow and Rana related? Have the vet take a look at Rana's paw too.
If Shadow and Rana are related----ask the vet about it----it might be a good idea to have a talk with your breeder.

Sue, are you feeding a corn based commercial kibble/chow? If so, it could easily be an allergic reaction to corn. You might try feeding without corn in their diet for at least a month but longer is best, if no sore(s) then add corn into diet again and see if the sore (s) come back. It takes a few months this way but you would then know if you need to take corn from their diet permanently. It is how I discovered most of my dogs are allergic to corn and so were my two yellow labs I had in the past. The vet gave steriod shots to stop the sore on the front leg/paw but I wanted to discover the problem and not mask the problem - I have found most doctors for people and animals treat symptoms and not the underlying problem. If the vet wants to give a steriod shot, you might decline and take corn and wheat from the diet first, while trying to help heal the sore with baking soda in water, soaks.

The dog may have allergies. I suggest you go to the vet to confirm this.
