It is seems like the longer we have Penny Lane and the healthier she becomes (from years of ear issues) the more she will make noises similar to how a cat does (it does sound like purring but the response is the same). I have been laughing that she will purr for petting.
Is this a Weim thing? I interpret as being happy but I haven't had a dog do it in the same way.
Overall she talks to us more and more. She continues to believe it is her house and her people not the other way around.
It is sort of a cute thing not a problem. I was just curious if she is unique in this.

peggy lou,
I've got two weims, both bitches and you know what? they both purr like a cat Not only when you're petting them, but als when they've worked hard for me and they lay the tired body's to rest. Also when they,ve eaten etc. etc. So when they're happy in general and they're relaxed, they're purring. I know lot's of weims who do that, so it's not unique but it is a sign they are happy and satisfied.

Thanks Ralph. My instinct was that it just meant Penny Lane is happy but I wasn't sure if it was a Weim thing or what.

Interesting thing... Well, Allegro does this also, but only when he lays his tired body to rest, and he does this very short time. He is still very young, I think this may change in few years in more purring. I hope so, as I like it very much, when they make such sounds...

Sorry I am slower in responding these days. In terms of your Weim only purring a little, that's how Penny Lane started. We have had her almost 2 years (on the 17th I think) and she didn't start out purring at all. She was a rescue and it took her a bit to get used to us and that she was staying here. We occasionally got little sounds. Now she comes up to us to be petted and almost starts purring in anticipation of it. Yours probably will purr more and more with time too.

mine just groans rather than purrs, only time she does that is when the cats buried underneath her... :-)

I hear the grunts and groans as well. Thankfully they are always out of contentment...or when they plop down to become a couch potato.
