Hey, everyone. My SOS is desperate. My dog started to BITE the wall corners:( In my almost new apartment. Once I fixed it, but after few days, she bit again, all five corners:((( Why does she do that? Earlier, she never touched anything - once a shoe, but never did it again after I punished her. But now I cannot catch her scranching the wall, and only one thing left - put her in the cage again. This is what I don't like, cause there she has no space for a run or smth:( I tried to spot those walls with spicy and hot vinegar or smth, but it steams very quickly, and few hour later she starts eating the wall again. Give me some advise, cause I don;t want keeping her in the cage during the daytime. I leave her toys or bones, but she gets bored quickly.... Help!

We had the same problem with pups eating the armchair's corners. Nothing helped. At last we put some Pfizer's BENGAY cream (the soothing and medicated analgesic rub for aching joints and muscles) on the pieces of plaster and we stuck them on the corners. It stank terribly for looooooong time and pups didn't dare to approach.

How did you wash it away after puppies stopped eating the armchair? And could it be, that such cream would make Brera eat something else? Lets say, walls can be fixed, but leather armchairs or sofa - nope:) And does this cream have anything poisoned , in case Brera tries to taste it?...

Migle - she's a puppy! Puppies DO eat and destroy VALIUABLE things. You'll fix everything... later. When you're at home, just keep an eye on her. When you leave, put her in a crate. You can always take a sticky tape and just "shut" her mouth

Well Migle,
In my opinion Brera has not enough challanges when you are out working... It's perfect normal for a young dog. The only thing that helps for me is that our dogs are outside when we are going to work.... There they can not destroy things, and there is always something happening... a bird flies by, a car, some people, ect... A weimaraner is a curious dog that wants to explore... So when you're not there, that is what she is doing with her lots of time !!
My experiences says, once they are 1 year old, this behaviour passes....

can you get hold of a couple of different kongs??? when bonnie was a puppy they really helped especially the ones that I froze because it helped her teething and gave her a challenge at the same time. Ayla has had the same kongs and so far so good although she is a great bed chewer

How did you wash it away after puppies stopped eating the armchair? The cream was on the surface of the plaster and the plaster was stuck to the armchair. So when the problem stopped we just took the plasters off the armachir. This BENGAY was the only awful thing that stopped the pups to eat our furniture. And does this cream have anything poisoned , in case Brera tries to taste it? Well, our pups have survived the experiment (you know we were very desperate). But I think that in case of allergic dogs the cream perhaps could be harmful. Of course in case the dog ate it! But I really don't think that there would be a dog in the world that could eat BENGAY! That's really terrible!

Instead of something smelly--which might attract a dog even more(remember that people and dogs don't have the same idea about what smells good or not---rotten fish guts is the most delightful perfume in the world to dogs, and they will risk anything to roll in it)---you need to try some bitter apple spray. It is a bitter tasting stuff that they put on fences to keep horses from chewing on them. Horses can chew down fences made of oak logs if you give them long enough. You might be able to find bitter apple in pet shops, if not, you can make your own. Use Epsom salts(magnesium chloride--the kind that you put in hot water to soak aching feet)--any drugstore should have it--and Baking Alum(potasium tartrate-used in pickeling and baking)--you can find it in the baking section of the grocery store as Cream of Tarter. Disolve as much as you can of both in about 2 cups of water and use it from a spray bottle. Measurements aren't critical--I just dump both containers in. Spray it on where you don't want her to chew--it dries colorless and oderless--but tastes extremely bitter.
For the sofa--I'd tape towels or something over the area with plastic underneath and use it on that(not on the leather itself).

hey, everyone, thanks for you great advises! Fred, I will surely try this recipe! tasha, what is "kong" ? I don;t know the meaning of this word:(
Kobie, Patricia, Yes, I know she is a pupp, and I know she is sad while I am away, but somehow she has to understand what's good, and what's bad. I leave her toys, bones, raw bones, but... she gets bored quickly, when noone's is watching:) When I am home, she doesn't touch anything!!! And leaving her in a crate brakes my heart, the same as when she wants to come to my bed and looks at me with tears in her eyes:) Yesterday she destroyed her new blanket bought in Poznan - nothing left. And she did it in her crate:(((( And don't you think this shows her increasing distructivnes?

As all my weims destroyed things when they were under 1 year old, Ginger isn't otherwise. Yesterday, when I came home, she also tried to make of her blanket a warm wintercoat ! It actually wasn't funny, but she bit 2 wholes in the blanket, just on the place you could ware it as a vest. My garden was covered with blue woolen snow

if you have to leave your puppy insite, it would be better to put him in a cage. They sleep all the time anyway. You only have to get him used to it. But this is not a solution for too many hours. Also give him (of her?) enought possibility to play and move then he will be more sleepy and satisfied. But once some months older the destoying work will stop if you keep your dog busy.
we make with Cummel two walks in the moring and evening even if cold, rain, dark. He wont destroy anything... but when he was young he dit too. Kobie, I know what you are talking about, hihi.

Kobie---maybe Ginger is part Mexican? You need to get her a Sombrero to go with her new Serape.

hello Fialco i know this sounds like a weird question, but were your walls by any chance painted white or just plain white?

hey, Rute, no, not all the walls are painted white, and they are made from concrete, not the parget. Here's the pic of the walls she likes best:)
