Their aren't many british videos that cover the training of HPR's (esp. Weim) I was wondering if there were any US or European ones? Wouldn't need to be English language (I can just look at the pretty pictures )

BUNCHES of them Mike---look here: www.dresslersdog.com/video01.html Although, I'm not too sure that people in the UK will think that videos from Missouri, Texas, and Georgia will be too convinced that they are in ENGLISH Don't place an order till next week, and CHECK the board before you do---I'm working on something and hope to have an announcement posted before then.

Wow! Are you familiar with any of them? Minimal ecollar use would be handy

Mike, if you ever decide to cross borders with Harley, you're more than welcome to come visit me and do some training.

Delmar Smith and Richard Wolters have been around a LONG time and are top field trainers since long before e-collars. They would train using only a 40 ft. check cord. They may have updated sections on ecollars, but you would be able to use their entire course without an ecollar.

I'm a big fan of the West/Gibbons method. They do use ecollars but IMO in a humane way. His methods are particularly good for soft dogs. His used to compete with Vizslas. There are videos out and books. See www.uplandbirddog.com/archives/index.htm

Am I correct in thinking that the American method doesn't require the dog to flush the bird? That it is the handlers job? DVD's look good, I am tempted

Yes, in American the handler flushes the bird.
