Just interested in what everyone hunts for. I use my older weim in the field for pheasants, however she is more of a "heel" dog. When she is with another dog she is better at hunting. I just got a 6 mo old pup, he seems like he will be the hunter of the two. I am hoping that my female will hunt better with a "brother" there. Does anybody have the same problem? Do you think another weim is going to help? I plan on hunting them both at the same time.

hi, in sweden we mostly hunt pheasant, partridge, black grouse, capercaillie and grouse so it´s a mixture of field-, forest- and mountainbirds. some owners also hunt hare and deer, but a general opinion amongst swedish hunters is that weimaraners are too fast to hunt roe deer and that it´s not ethical, but maybe that´s another discussion... peter

I use my dogs for pheasant, duck, pigeon, geese, hare, rabbit, crow and every now and then they have to work a blood track for me from a wounded roe. They both cover their fields excellent for a Weim, just like Ingvild's Atlas. One of them is not interested in the other, during a hunt, the other on the other hand surely hunts together with her mum.

Quail, chukar and pheasant. My shorter ranging female does a lot better on wild pheasant than my larger ranging male. I wouldn't hunt 2 dogs together until they are both fairly well trained and can work independently from each other. That said we have had my pup out with an older dog but she is busy and independent so didn't interfere.... Unless you have an older dog that can take a puppy stuff, both dogs may suffer training regression.

Grouse (three species: ruffed, sharptail, spruce) Ducks (mallards, gadwalls, pintails, teal etc.) Geese (snow, ross, Canada), pheasant, grey partridge, rabbits, hares, snipe and woodcock.
I also hunt deer, moose and elk but we are not allowed to use our dogs to track wounded big game (!?)
I have the great fortune to live in an area which can be relatively rich in game and more or less void of people. My dogs and I hunt over 50 days a year and rarely, if ever see other hunters.
My wife and I are also always thrilled to welcome hunters from other lands. So if your piggy bank is full and your dogs deserve some time in (almost) virgin fields, drop me a line, the door is open and our dogs are friendly!

Of course the dogs are allowed to bring their people!
Every year we welcome guests from Europe and the U.S. to our humble abode. Last year we rented a beautiful cabin on the shores of lake Manitoba for a group of friends from France. We hunted every day for a couple of weeks and never came across another hunter.
This fall, I already have guests from England and the U.S. booked for the end of September and will shortly hear from my friends in France who will probably visit at the beginning of October.
There is always room for more guests (we have a lot of room here in Manitoba), especially attractive Dutch women with LH weimaraners (I hope my wife doesn't read this!)....

I am not hunting anymore, but did it for many years, with a lot of pleasure. I hunted for pheasant, duck, rabbit, hare, pardridges, crow, snipe (for many years ago) and grey geese. My body can't do the huntingwork any more, but i'm still train my dogs. Maby, Marjolein, i'm going to the 40th birthday of the Czech Weimaranerclub too. I was there for 5 years ago and it was lovely.

Next autumn will be fine Marjolein. See you then!
When is the big party in the Czech republic? My wife and I attended the 75th anniversary of the Austrian club and had a wonderful time. Depending on the dates for the Czech celebration, we may be able to visit.
