I like to know, what the difference is in Hunting trials, Field trials etc. in the different countries. For instance there is in Germany VJP for youngdogs, HZP also for young dogs and VGP for dogs of any age, but not younger than 18 month. Also i like to know, what do the dogs have to do, and what is the most normal way to train the dogs, do you train them yourself or do you have a special hunting trainer? ??

Hi Ina,
I will try to explain the situation here in Belgium:
There are different examens. They make a difference before and after shot. Unforunatly no universal examens like in Germany...
Before shot you have the field trials. You can get a qualification point on pheasant or patridge.
After shot you have examens with most of the tests are to retrive a cold duck, but also some obidiance tests. Depending on results you can get two different diploma.
Only with a qualification point on a field trial you can get the FCI certificate to enter working class on shows.
We train for both of this examens. No special hunting trainer. For field trials we made first a course with the Belgian Weimaranerclub. Than we train allone or with friends. The biggest problem is to find fields... For the other examen we join from April on a training groep of a hunting dog club. Is mostly a lot of fun!

In the US, we have various ways to test our dogs in the field. AKC has field trials and hunting tests. There are other organizations like NAVHDA (North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association) test which are modeled pretty close to the German tests, and then there are other tests/competitions like NSTRA (National Shoot to Retrieve Assoc.) and American Field field trials. We can even test with the German system here. Oh and the Weim Club of America also has what they call Ratings tests. Check out Regen Weimaraners site for an explanation of the most popular tests/competitions we have. www.regenweimaraners.com/ click competition and then field

Hi, In Czech republic is working trials and competitions quite the same as in Germany.
Working trials: ZV - its test for young dog, here we view the inborn characteristic (pointing) PZ - its autumn test for all ages, here we view work before and after shoots (pointing, retrieving, tracking and another). SVP - water test for all ages (duck) LZ - forest test for all ages, here dog must work with fox, rabbit and pheasant BZ - its blood tracking test for all ages VZ - its all round working test for all ages (all tests what we have in 2 days) Field trials: the same as in every countries
and Competitions (memorials) for the best dogs with tittle CACT(national) and CACIT (international)
I train alone on every tests and field trials. I have small training school for my friend who have pointing dogs. For field trials we havent got problem with field, we have a little game in Czech. So we must train in beginning on keeping pheasants or rabbits and after dogs can good pointing, we go train to the fields.
