Hi Heidi, I live in Victoria and I am quite involved with showing however I don't post a lot. I would suggest you wear something neat and tidy, never Jeans! Always wear something as though you would like people to remember you as being well dressed - but not in Granny clothe, but never in casual. A neat blazer or jacket with either skirt or slacks - in summer a lovely shirt would be good instead of a jacket. If you were going for a job interview this would probably be about right. Colour should not blend with the dog - never wear Grey, brown - contrast colours show off your dog best. Don't wear 2 different colours (top and bottom) especially if you are short - it makes you look shorter - 1 solid colour shows off your dog better. Hope this helps, best of luck. Liz

These are great advices. I must admit, you helped me too with your advices. For example, I was never thinking about that, that two different colours can make you look shorter. And now when I think about it more, I see - you are so deamn right about it!!! Where did you learn about this??? Or you just have this sence for harmonious dressing and colour picking just in you?.... :-) I think it would be interesting to put some photos of best dressed handlers with weims...so we could discuss about this, and heidi would find an example that would suit her the most... Best regards, Kristina

Black can make your weim look lighter in colour. I also haev a burgandy suit that I have worn to Crufts. The lighter the colour (especially in summer at outdoor shows) white and very pale colours can make your weim look dark. In summer / outdoors I would look at a mid blue, green / dark lilac types of colours and in winter or indoor shows darker colours. I agree not trying to blend with your dog or opting for shades of grey (unless a dark charcoal grey indoors). Best of luck at your show and remember to enjoy it!

I went to an open show at ardingly yesterday and I have to say I was surprised at the turn out of the majority of people. Most turned up looking like I do when its laundry day and were bitching about the behaviour of the judges who didn't have an easy task given that alot of the classes were multi breeds.
I think its important that your turn out well because its less distracting when your watching, even as a spectator I was more often drawn to the handlers rather than the dogs which is a pity because most of them were turned out beautifully.
This was meant to be our first class but bonnie is in season so we took the opportunity to go along and watch.

I refuse to dress up for a dog show, in fact, I hardly ever dress up. But the least you can do is wear clean clothes and a proper bra!!!!!!!!

definitely a decent bra!!! This was partly what was so distracting poor old sam was having to sit there near the edge of the ring and came close to getting his eye poked out by one wayward middrift

I would rather pay attention to his head, not tail. His head is too low I think. Besides when he holds his tail (and head ) down, he looks as if he didn't like all this running around .... The judge must see a dog that is full of joy and temperament.

It was pointed out to me once by a photographer that i was wearing the wrong coloured clothes. She said she couldn't take any photo's of me because my khaki coloured pants blended in with the dog and the dead Australian winter grass in the background. Great camouflage but not good for showing dogs. And thats great that for the girls to have good comfy sports bra's but i've seen some larger men getting around the ring who could use one. Nothing worse than seeing man-boobs jiggling around the ring Steve

heheh, bra is important surely:))) At my firs show, wich went outside, on a really green grass and really red stadium cover, I wore blue jeans and white blouse, white shoes. I think that was ok, because I didn't wear shorts or short pants. And the colour ensemble was good enough. Surely, when show goes inside, I would probably wear something else.. Shoes are important, too:)

I think shoes has to be comfortable in a first place and just then if You have possibility you can choose some color or model.

Hey Steve, I agree - in Victoria there are a few fatty boombars with man boobs, but not many in Group 3 (gundog group) they just can't get round the ring fast enough. Some people in Australia wear golf shoes to show outside, the ones with the rubber soles and not metal spikes which are against our rules. Heidi I have a suggestion for you but it requires a little work - take one of your photos of your dog and put it on a plain white back ground. Then just keep changing the colours in the background until you find a colour that you think would be suit you (your colouring) and is a good contract to the dog. I think you can do this in a photoshop or thumbsplus program. I am not that good with computer photo alteration but some people are, it's a great eye opener for colour contrast. Liz - Victoria

Sorry for the errors, my keyboard is playing up a little, wording should be"best suit you" and "contrast". Liz
