Well, I haven't measured Phantom's tongue, but when he sits on your lap and washes your face, I SWEAR it is a foot wide and three feet long! ;D Wendy

LOL!!!, just look at those eyes and concentration, if pure concentration alone could cause telekenesis and levitation, he'd have a bisquit for sure.

Ahh.. the heads of weims.. Well for me it is a wery importent part of a weim. SO many have awfull snipy heads with the eyes to close tougheter. OR mastiff like heads. The longharis have a big problem with the heads... at least according to my personal taste ;-)
I had a talk with a breeder in sweden (Mimmi) and she had a interesting idea. She said that snipy heads seemed to be related to the longhaired gene . The longharis who have 2 LH parent and LH grandparents more often seemed to have snipy heads. I don't know if thats all true.. but It might be woth looking into. But there are many SH with snipy heads aswell... :-) I like my own dogs head, he could be a bit dryer but he is my ideal. I have seen som nice dogs from norway aswell (LH).
But an almost bigger problem is the back... to many dogs have short backs.. The dog should be longher than its height. ... I can se a difference in my dogs lenght of steps when he is running compered to other dogs with short backs.. He outruns them as with minmal effort.

Are you talking about the mainland LH's Indy? I think there are good LH heads in Europe. There are lines that are of somewhat less quality, but heads as snipey as the SH's, no, haven't seen them. I have seen French LH's with a snipey head though, but there is Saluki blood in them....
I do agree with you on the length of the backs though, way too short formy likings. A real shame!

I must agree with Marjolein, there are good heads by the longhair. And as she says as well by the Europian longhairs. Our Bo-ghy was also 1 of the Weims with a very good head. And he had was dry as well in his head

Some lines seem to produce very square-looking dogs with no legth. The image is just made worse by the fact that many of these dogs are flat all over (no or very little definition of the chest, very strong legs).

Yes Marjolein.... 2 or three breeders did several out crossing with several breeds like english setter, german pointer or english pointer....and saluki or greyhounds. That is only because the most of our breeders made litters and litters only for dogshows Finally, We lost the hunting desire, the speed in the track and the pointing ability. So hunters, professionnal trainers, and several others did these out crossings to come back into the field trial level. Their job was great while 2 or 3 generations but no more to my mind. That's why I imported my dog from USA trial bloodlines.. Chris

Where have you this information from? This can't be true!? You are talking about mixing with above mentioned breeds only LH weims? Or shorthaired as well? As I read in many books, there is no posssibility to mix them wit english pointers, or german pointers, or any other breed that is not gray coloured. Weims mixed with white or brown coloured dogs produce only white or brown dogs (because of the recessive genes or something like that). And that's why the germans are so proud of this breeds as it's pure breed that has never bin mixed (especially not with pointers) with oter breeds to improve the pointing etc... Now I'm really confused... Please, explain to me... What is the real truth? Best regards, Kristina

Kristina at least shortly, I am in hurry. Mojo is right, I know for sure here was mated crossbreeding with deutsch kurzhaar and we have a lot of problems with brown dark weimaraners with black nails. They become after breeding with a dog whos father was pointer.

Snipy may be a bad word to describe what I mean... Thin heads with to small ears and to small eyes. I don't like them TO dry either.. they shold have som elipps, but not masiff-like offcourse. And NOT extremly long hair on the ears... This is the type I like: (offcurse my own dog... ) community.webshots.com/photo/549230290/2556382310087631438yaevZCHOW DO YOU ATTACH A PICTURE?
