LOL, No, Lesley, (thanks for posting it and thanks, too, Jai, for instructons, I will practice!) Must run the meat to the butcher this moment, forgot to watch the time!
Back again, there is a long waiting list this time of year and the meat was thawing out of the freezers waiting to be ground. Its our winter supply of meat. The bones are kept clean so I can have them sawn into a fist size or a little larger for individual recreational bones for all four weims, my two huskies and also the the four goldens at my son's house and the small Australian cattle dog who is Deputy Daisy;) (we give her the smaller bones as she's the smallest and a rescue we hadn't found the proper home for- she's only "normal"w/our two household groups of dogs since there are no cattle or sheep for her to herd-we are her two herds).
The bones won't be done until Sunday or Monday but we'll be busy wrapping/packaging the moose meat burger Friday or Saturday which keeps putting us back on going ptarmigan hunting w/Boris.
Its a very busy and quick preparation of a few months to be ready for winter so I'll tell you now, Nome is where we live. The only way in or out is by plane or boat/ship.
Our road systems go north, southeast or northwest about 80 miles each way (3) and miles of country, no fences, nor can you tell anyone owns land such as we saw flying to The Netherlands. We could see from the plane demarcations in the land by agriculture methods that humans were working or utilizing their plots of land. We only have wilderness to see. By plane you might not think or see any wildlife but within the bushes or trees, there is wildlife.
I get the fish in July, the berries in August, the moose in September and as soon as that is in the freezer in meal size packages (the steaks, roasts and stew meat are easy while butchering myself but I have someone else take the small pieces and the fat to grind into burger or sometimes we have half burger, 1/4 breakfast sausage and 1/4 summer sausage/weiners, or "Polish" sausage.)
This year I'm in a hurry to take Boris ptarmigan hunting so will only get burger. Our first fall storm was supposed to be four days, from last Friday but it is still going on today.
I may have to ptarmigan hunt evenings after work next week, Boris is getting impatient right now. He sees leaves blowing in the wind and is "very fast" and as the kids say lately; "spastic" because he has matured and sees everything moving and is watchful and fast for game. I may try a video for Dolf, Joup, and Mar to see that he did get fast on his own and is now acting more as his older sister, Amy right now;) (There should end up a half freezer of cut recreational bones which will not be given daily.)

Lesley, its similar to a grouse, we have Rock and willow ptarmigan (pronounced; tar-mi-gan) and is very tasty. It changes color w/seasons, brown in summer, white in winter. www.alaskan-adventures.com/alaska-ptarmigan.htm(I guess after 52 years of ptarmigan, I just learned there is also "White tailed" and I still can't tell the difference from the willow and rock ones;)

Today we were out for some elkhunting, One of our hunters managed to shoot a big elk but it ran off so I decided to call Hanne and Diesel to track it, Diesel found the trail right away and found the bull which hadn’t run that far. A good exercise and lots of happy faces!
