Docked, docked, docked. Weims can't carry their tails in a nice way. They carry them too staight up like terriers. Ugh!

I prefer a docked tail but do not think if I had a litter I would have their tails docked... I know doesn't make sense but I am researching and as few in this country are worked I cannot see the problem especially if the bill on docking goes through.

Undocked defo. They don't have their tails for nothing. And about the bad carriage, that's due to the fact that they didn't look at tail quality since they were docked.

Undocked! How they carry their tail is irrelevant. There is so mutch more to a beautiful and smart dog than the tail. (However I prefer dobermans with cut ears but I can admit that it is shalow of me ;-))

Definitely DOCKED. In Australia we have not been able to dock for the last couple of years. In the last few weeks I have had to have the tail amputated on one of my show dogs because he spilt it wagging it soooo much. We tried bandaging it for a month but it would heal properly and kept bleeding. (His tail was really boney in the last two thirds). Now he'll be out of the ring for months until it has healed and the coat grows back. sigh..

UNDOCKED. Dogs tell so much with their tails. I love the wagging of a happy dog tail I also donĀ“t think my weim has a high tail setting at all. I also have a smooth griffon home and they used to have both docked ears and tails (in the US they still have) but I just love how my griffon lifts his tail on his back when he get excited and how is ears are going up and down while running

Funnily enough, I like docked Weims, but I hated having my litter docked, not because it hurt them, but because they wee banded and I had to watch their tails die. Seems to me we all like what we are used to seeing??? EG - holland, finland, sweden, prefer undocked, australia, uk, prefer docked? Nina

I like complete things. :-) Weimi spoke my thoughts entirely! Definitely un-docked (and I come from the UK where docking is normal!) You only have to see a docked dog meeting an undocked dog, and it's much more difficult for them to say "I'm friendly - let's play!"

Docked. This breed should have a docked tail, but I like both. Though my dog is docked, he always wags his tail strongly, which shows she is friendly and wants to play. So I disagree with Sian and Weimi:P

oh - I'm not saying that they can't express themselves. But it does seem to be harder. The problem is much more pronounced with the shorter docked tail breeds, eg dobermans.... There again, my Cassie has a veritable flag attached to her tail, ever since her full tail plumage grew at 2 years. So you can tell what she's feeling about a mile away!! ;D This probably makes me a little biased - maybe it's me that has difficulty reading the body language, rather than the dogs

Sian, as I understand, you have a LH weimie, so I agree that LH should not be docked:) They look very nice with their tails and surely have a stronger hair on the tail:)

I like both, but......for the work on hunting i think sometimes it is better for the shorthairs to be docked. I do not agree with szarasfora. She said all the tails of weimaraners are like the tails of terriers! That's not okee!!!!!! The tail should becarried like the Rhodesian Ridgebacks do! (Sorry, I don't know how to say it else in Englisch) Also the tail quality is very important. They must be not to thin. Gr. Ina

I like more the docked tail, but finally we will get used to long tails too. In many countries they dont dock anymore, so I hope that they begin to breed goed quality tails too.

Just UNDOCKED!!!! Before getting my girl I liked docked more, but when we got her I released how much the tail means for a dog, it is obvious when she runs tail helps her much the same and about swinging. Tail helps to say all emotions and it looks beautiful for me. Of course the are and some bad tings, sometimes when she wag it to hard it can hurt, or sometimes she push down on the floor something with her tail. But still weimarener with the long tail is totally complete dog...

I prefere docked - but a longer dock than the American standard. In France, they prefer a longer dock. Ellie's was docked too long (by American standards) by accident, but they love it in France and I prefer it now too. It is very expressive. I have to admit I'm not wild about the long tail, but I'm also not wild about the actual procedure of docking and more and more it's being banned, so I think it likely that there will come a time when I don't dock.

Docked for sure! We have 8 smooths, 4 docked, 1 half docked and 3 not docked. The three long-tails are are all longhair carriers, so you would think they would have a chance of having a better coverage on the tail, perhaps. The eldest has split and wounded her tail so many times on end at the sides. She has two big patches of like scar tissue where the hair doesn't grow anymore. She won't let you touch her tail, so good thing she's not in the ring. The other two (all three have the same LH mum) have thickly haired tails, like their dad does. Never had an injury. The one that is half docked was born with a tail a little shorter and with a turn in the end, and the vet decided the tip should come off. Never a problem. I have heard of a Wei here that hits itself in the head when it wags it's tails. Attractive!
